Join ACNM’s Director of Advocacy & Government Affairs, Amy Kohl, and
ACNM’s Federal Consultant, Patrick Cooney, in an interactive discussion
and review of existing and upcoming legislative and regulatory
priorities impacting the midwifery profession and additional
opportunities to improve our nation’s maternal health system.
Amy Kohl is the Director of Government Affairs & Advocacy for ACNM. In her role, Amy is responsible for leading the development and implementation of ACNM’s federal and state policy agenda, which includes identifying and maximizing opportunities for integration of midwives and midwifery-led care models. Prior to joining ACNM, Amy spent over a decade with the Health Industry Distributors Association tracking and lobbying for policy issues impacting our nation’s medical products supply chain and distribution. Prior to joining HIDA, Amy worked for a state government relations consulting firm and worked for a national political campaign committee. Amy holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government and Politics from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.
Patrick Cooney is the founder of The Federal Group, Inc., established with the objective of providing affordable, high-quality government relations consulting services to companies, associations, municipalities, and non-profit organizations. Over the past 20 years, The Federal Group has represented the interests of over 40 organizations. Prior to starting the firm, Patrick lobbied on behalf of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS).
Patrick served as a Legislative Assistant to Congressman Dick Swett (D-NH) who served the United States House of Representatives from 1991 – 1995. He also served as the State Field Director on the 1990 reelection campaign of the late Senator Jim Exon (D-NE) who served as a Senator from 1979 – 1997.
Patrick has an expansive knowledge of the legislative, regulatory, and political processes in Washington. He frequently speaks on government relations matters, particularly in the area of health care policy.
Patrick is a graduate of the College of Business at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He resides near Mount Vernon in Alexandria, Virginia. Growing up in Omaha, Nebraska, he remains a loyal Cornhusker fan.
